Meijer Meijer started out as a local grocer - offering the best products and prices in town. Today we still offer the best groceries in town, and a whole lot more. In 1962 we opened the first Meijer Thrifty Acres, a food and general merchandise store. It was the birth of one-stop shopping and since then we've grown into a supercenter featuring over 40 departments with over 170 stores across the midwest! We're continuing to add more stores with our original philosophy in mind - extraordinary selection, low prices and friendly service.
